In the movie Titanic, does the ship sink?
Edit: Fist punters. Ok, are we now on the best winning streak in Rangers history?

Nice blog Jan! Two points if I may. One if smith hears from the league at all or is suspended they should make hockeyba non contact sport. Two I know I’m in the minority here but I really would like to see the rangers re sign Nash for a reasonable rate and term I just think he is a great two way player |

the Rangers had a bad start in 2013-14 but from December on they were the best team in the league, and also won the Prez trophy in 2014-15
really awesome year and a half of hockey, just too bad they couldn't win it all

Yes the Kings got away with that. I'm thinking Sutter AV, Sutter gets him again. Could be wrong, but I don't think AV can win a cup. |

people (frank)ing suck Sullivans knob after they won in 2016... theres probably 20 coaches in this league that could win with those two |

Just think about what would have happened if we didn’t bounce the pens twice from the playoffs they could have had four cups and been considered by many as a dynasty! Now with two in a row and probably not three...... not so much |

Smith Penalty was BS - disorca
When it happened, I was like "Oh man that was bad." Once they showed the multiple replays it was obvious it wasn't a penalty. I don't blame the refs too much because they had to make a call right there and can't go to video review.
Hope Borieweski is ok though. That was a hard hit into the boards. |

Smith penalty was indeed the wrong call however the optics of the hit and the way the game is called, right wrong or indifferent, leads the ref to hand out a penalty.
Ref is in a tough spot there imo. To me making the call and finding out later that it was not a penalty is better than not making a call and finding out it was an illegal hit. |

if Sullivan was coaching the Rangers in the finals instead of AV, McDonagh and Nash wouldn't have hit those posts in overtime |

15 games. Way worse than what Gudas did - mdw7413
Jokes and my obvious distaste for the NYR aside...I really don't see how that should have been anything other than 5 and a game. I don't think Smith is a dirty player and I don't think the outcome was his original intention, but it was a brutal hit 6ft from the puck. I don't buy the "jockeying for position" argument either. Doesn't look to me like Borowiecki ever acknowledge any sort of implied contact. I don't think it's suspension worthy, but I think the call on the ice was absolutely the correct call, given what happened. |

Did you see the replays? Borowiecki looked right at Smith and they both went shoulder to shoulder.

As much as it pains me to say it, I almost completely agree with you. There certainly was no intent to injure, the distance to the boards just made for an ugly impact. But, I have never agreed with the way guys initiate a hit 2 strides before possession of the puck is even possible. That is interference plain and simple and I wish they would call it appropriately.
I do think it should have been a 2 minute minor, though. It was ugly, but he didn't hit him in a dirty fashion at all, just too early.
Hope he's ok. It looked bad. |

That shouldn't matter though. You can't initiate contact who doesn't yet have possession of the puck. They were 8 feet away from it.
edit: Christ. I just argued on Chiefs behalf. Some flag that comment! |
